Title: Characters on chariots hit by stone throwers
daftgor - July 18, 2009 03:37 PM (GMT)
I was playing WoC vs OnG the other day and some questions came up when my sorceror lord and his chariot were hit by a rock lobber.
Now, I know that ridden monsters have specific rules for being hit by template weapons, but these don't seem to apply to mounted chariots. Would it be best just to house rule to use these, or are they different on purpose? The difference in the randomisation and armour for chariot riders suggests to me they are intended to be handled differently.
Questions
1) a character on chariot is a multipart model; can it only be hit once by a stone thrower? if so is the hit randomised between the character and the chariot?
2) If both the chariot and the character riding it are able to be hit by a single stone, do they both get the 'single' double strength hit when the centre of the template is on the chariot? If not, what happens?
a. The double strength hit is randomised to one part of the model, the other part gets a regular hit (automatic as the center is on the model)
b. The double strength hit is randomised to one part of the model, the other part gets a regular hit (partial as the model isn't fully covered by the template)
Based on the Rule of Burning iron FAQ I'd suspect the chariot/character model can only be hit once and the hit is randomised. However, if both parts of the model can be hit by the same stone I suspect 2 b. to be the case
Thanks for any help resolving this.

Since the stone thrower template only touches a single model, only a single model is hit. Randomize for which part is hit.

Thanks decker!
I had my orcy friend around yesterday so I showed him this thread. He's still a little uncertain as there is only one response (and what does a beastman forum know about stone throwers :S).
I guess he doesn't appreciate your near-omniscience decker :D

Why repeat a correct answer?

I think he wanted further verification as he couldn't believe my interpretation was right.
Thanks for providing that verification snowblizz!

It's particularly silly when a direct hit on the head of a stegadon only hits a single skink crewman, but it's just one of those abstractions for simplicity. Having something like it doing a double strength hit to one part and a S4 hit to each of the other parts would be better IMO.

Of course....I now look this up and see I was wrong. :P
Not for the chariot question, but for the stegadon comment. p.61, 3rd paragraph says that a template hitting a monster with riders will have each part hit on a 4+, meaning stone throwers are an amazing way at taking out EoTGs.
For chariots, there is no such special rule that I can see at the moment. I'll look it up though.

Oh if he only knew how pulled out the air it was...

I can see it now... "Ooooh I got it! I got... wait that's not a ball is it..."

Oh, that means that I was right last time I used my Gyros steamgun against a Steg... My opponent claimed it only to hit one part, and I trusted him, meaning the steam (hitting the monster) was kinda waisted. It probably would have been anyway, but I thought all parts could be hit, and because the Priest only had one wound left I thought it could be worth the gamble.
Great to know!
