Title: Thinking of Tomb Kings

Garganthor - August 3, 2009 09:19 PM (GMT)
Lately I have been thinking a bit about Tomb Kings, and if maybe one should start a skall sideproject for when I'm tired of painting chaos. I think I could do something nice with them, even though I really don't like some of the models - particulary the horses (not saying that they wouldn't look like that, I really don't know, just that they're butt ugly)...

Anyway, I thought I would browse the net for some nice forum, but the Khemri-site appears to have vanished... Anyone know where to find it, or have any other suggestions? I did find one other, but it doesn't seem to be very active...

http://z4.invisionfree.com/Khemri/index.php?act=idx works for me. I've no idea if it's a good forum or not.

There's been some talk about if the Tomb Kings will get a new armybook soon. If they do I think they'll get new skeletons, just like the Vampires got, so I wouldn't buy the old ones they have now.
Maybe you could start converting the vamp skellies? They're nice models, and there's enough heads and such that are not full of bats and stuff.
And the lovely Ushabtis, if you can find different models, apparently that's been a problem for people...

Garganthor - August 3, 2009 11:45 PM (GMT)
Ah, thanks. The link on the "Other Warhammer Sites" seems to be broken, but your link worked a charm...

Oh, they're rumoured getting a new book soon? Hm, might just wait a bit, and just try and find the Ushabtis and one or two other nice things...

I've gotten some pretty solid info from various GW staff members on releases, Tomb Kings won't be coming out this year, the only other release this year is first Space Wolves in October, and then Skaven in November. Beastmen are going to be done first quarter next year (end of March at the latest).

As far as other Tomb Kings stuff goes, I have no idea.

Why do you think the horses are ugly? I think they are actually kinda cool models when you get a good look at them, but every man to his own I guess.

Im Tutank on the forum Mrtn showed you. I've been toying around with Tomb Kings....not to much success, because I'm fighting a Brettonian death star, but still, they can be fun, and I imagine a chariot/ M7 army would be fun.

So, TK could be in about a year at least... well, that's allright for me, it will as I said only be a side project, taking it slowly.

About the horses it just feel like the lack something. But I might get used to it, I don't know, we'll have to see...

ShaggothLord

I'll say hello when I register, so you know who I am then.

A Chariot/M7 could indeed be fun, but I think I'll start having a bit off everything first, d then see which way I go.

--------------

About not getting any skeletons yet, we'll see. I saw a nice conversion by someone on the Khemri site, using VC-skeletons and TK bits. It would of course mean some work, but I'm no stranger to that.

Oh well, it's not anythoing I'll start with just now though, but it's nice to look for inspiration and ideas at least.

Cheers.

An army consisting of constructs just scream for skelotaurs ;) If it is the head part you donīt like at least. :)

I'm Re-stardjaf on that site. :)

Tomb Kings are a terrific army... but a bit hard to get into the swing of. Can't march, spells don't fail, and aren't the cheesefest of the VC(despite being ItP).

decker_cky - August 5, 2009 03:04 PM (GMT)
I doubt TK skeletons would get replaced. Doing so would require every one of their plastic kits to be replaced, something I don't see GW doing. More likely they'll include a one liner about khemrians being taller than men of the old world.

But I've heard 2010 for TK as well.

Overmind - August 5, 2009 03:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah ti'd mean Chariot, Tomb Gaurd, Skeleton Warriors, Skeleton Light Horsemen, and Skeleton Heavy Horsemen would need to be redone.

That's four kits. Possible but probably not going to happen.

decker_cky - August 5, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
I'd guess they're more likely to get plastic tomb guard along with the possibility of tomb scorpions, ushabti and the screaming skull catapult being other plastic candidates (along with something new).

Overmind - August 5, 2009 03:36 PM (GMT)
Actually I was about to correct myself, Screaming Skull Catapults and the Casket of Souls are also skeleton units.

That makes six kits.

Recent Releases:
Lizardmen: Temple Gaurd, Stegadon, Kroxigors, Terradons, Characters. 4 Kits
Dark Elves: Hydra, Corsairs, Cold One Knights, Characters. 3 kits.
Vampire Counts: Skeleton Warriors, Ghouls, Vhargulf, Blood Knights, Dire Wolves, Corpse Cart, Characters. 6 Kits.
Daemons of Chaos: I've got no clue.... two at least(Daemonettes and Bloodletters).
High Elves: Chariot, Dragon, Mage, Prince, (Bolt Thrower?), probably some metal Characters as well. 4(5) kits.

Based on that my assumption for Tomb Kings is:
Tomb Guard, Skeleton Warriors, Skeleton Horsemen, Chariots, Characters. 4 Kits.

Possibly: Catapult, Tomb Scorpions, maybe (just maybe) Casket.

That's not unreasonable, nor is it to much to assume there won't be a new choice, or if there is there won't be a model for it. That's how it's been for the WoC and DE. The Lizardmen simply have some new variants so didn't need a new model kit beyond one that needed to be redone anyways(Stegadons).

decker_cky - August 5, 2009 04:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah....but let me put it this way....that's replacing 3 plastic kits. How many plastic kits have been replaced in 7th edition? Night goblins, state troops and VC skeletons? So they've replaced 3 plastic kits with other plastic kits in the entire range.

VC and TK skeletons are now distinct. I'd be hugely surprised if they replaced the TK skeletons now.

Overmind - August 5, 2009 04:33 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't.

Nor would I be surprised if they weren't.

It's hard to predict these things after all.

But looking at it, the TK range has a lot of plastic. Ushabti will be replaced(if at all) by metal, as will the Scorpion. The Bone Giant might get to be plastic if he gets the buffs and options that are somewhat hinted at.. thoug it is far to early to tell even before GW's silence.

The Casket will probably also be metal as will the catapult if they are replaced.

Characters are also normally metal.

That leaves: Carrion(not replaced at all is my bet), Tomb Gaurd(will most likely become plastic), Skeleton Chariots/Horsemen/Warriors, Tomb Swarms(not yet seem a swarm updated... *shrug*), and that's it.

So it does seem to point to making the two ranges even more distinct from one another by making the Tomb Kings have new proper-sized skeletons with plenty of bitz.

But I could easily be wrong.. we have quite a while to go after all.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the skeletons replaced. Weren't the old dire wolves and empire handgunner kits plastic? That makes 5 replaced kits, plus the Chaos Warriors, even though they were replaced in 6th.

decker_cky - August 5, 2009 05:21 PM (GMT)
Empire handgunners only had a starter kit (on the same sprue as spearmen). Dire wolves were plastic bodies with metal heads, and the only thing GW hates more than metal models is hybrid metal/plastic models.

Garganthor - August 5, 2009 06:22 PM (GMT)
I guess I'll load up on the stuff I want, and then maybe just get the skeletons also. I don't really mind them, before VC gotr there new ones I didn't think the old ones were that terrible. If they replace them with new and nicer stuff, well, I'll have to buy that too then, it's not harder than that :D If nothing else I'll have a lot of skeleton bits to use for other stuff.

Overmind - August 5, 2009 06:52 PM (GMT)
Oh I adore the current range... I'm actually worreid that they'll be replaced.

And that the book will suck. Fluffwise or Rulewise(and either direction).
