Title: Nurglng army, need ideas

sandpeople - August 10, 2009 12:14 PM (GMT)
So I got 30 bases of nurglings and 50 loose nurglings. I want to use these for an army that is not daemons of chaos.

I allready got Daemons of chaos, ogr kingdoms and skaven armies painted and ready, so I want to use the as something else.

One thought is to use them as an all forest spirit army with:

nurgling on 25mm base = Dryad
nurglins on 40mm base = Tree kin
Great unclean one = Treeman ancient

another thought is to use both nurglings on 40mm and 20mm bases to create ranked units, but what army book to use?

I think the key is to have no more than 3 or maybe 4 troop types, so my opponent donīt get too confused.

Any ideas?

So that should add up to around 200 nurglings total - you could use them as undead horde each based nurgling being a single skelly. Get nurgle sorcerers as your "necromancers" nurgle chaos warrior as your "vampire", hunt down an old style carrion and plunk a nurgling atop it instead of the little ghostly rider for your varghulf if you want one. you could even make some really cool cav bases with nurglings swarming on dead horse skellies as a unit of horsemen. You could even cut up only one or two horses and mount them across a row of 5 bases to make a large diorama style presentation of the whole unit.

Problem with forest spirit armies are that they're pretty...boring. I mean, you have 3 (1 being both lord and rare) units if you're not using the other forest spirits (wild riders, unicorns), so I'd imagine the army, if awesome, being pretty bland to play. Of course, you could always figure out some nice nurgly equivalents of the other elf units, but yeah.
VC might be nice, though!

I too am waiting for a big load of nurglings (coming with the old Death Guard army I just bought) so I'm watching this topic for ideas to pinch. ;)

Actually that undead idea sounds interesting...

goblins? or a kind of toady skink army?

Snotling army! Snotling army! Snotling army!

3 small units of plaguebearer orcs, a herald (orc hero) and the rest snurglings.

The undead ideas sound pretty good, if done right.

The tree spirits less so....

1) Make the nurglings into pairs with one standing on the other's shoulders
2) Use as undead
3) ...
4) Profit

Bought:

25 more nurglings (75 in total)
2 rock lobbers
spear chucka
Giant
Doom diver

So I guess its the snotling horde that is getting built!

I was thinking:
Nurgling (or maybe 2) on 20mm base - Night goblin
Nurgling base 40mm base - Snotlings
War machines with nurgling crew - Goblin crew
Nurglings riding mutated flies (from spawn bits) - Squig hoppers

Just need some ideas for squig hunters!

Would spider riders work?

Remember to start up a painting/army diary.

Are they all new nurglings, or are some of the the really nice characterful old ones?

I too was doing to suggest nurglings on 20mm base -> Goblins

I have a mix of old and new nurglings. And yes i will start a painting blog! Great idea!

I got my own box of nurglings now, from the Death Guard army I bought. About 20 bases painted, and a big box of unpainted ones. Most seem to be home cast, but they're fairly good quality, and the models are small and fiddly anyway, so it isn't a big deal that they're not original.

Well, I took the time to see how it would look. Could be a nice looking army:

In the words of Peter Griffin "You bastard" ;)

It looks great!

Are you going to play them?

I just started up an army diary, and my diary's got a picture with painted nurglings, so I'm ahead of you there (11-3  ).
I'm probably going for vampire counts, ghouls with poison and no musicians and standards. Nurgle mages as vampires/necros. How big is the varghulf's base? Maybe I could use a spawn instead? :)
