Title: Thinking of buying an empire army
Description: Suggestions?
BeastsBookorNot - September 4, 2009 11:28 AM (GMT)
Just wanted to know herdstoner's thoughts on the empire army...I really like the models, and the whole army concept of having cannons and guns, and of course, a tank. Any suggestions on units I def should/shouldn't have? What about character choices? Crazy to do this now I know with the new beasts book coming out in feb...no mar...no wait its apr...ok seriously feb...no its may...whenever. I guess I'm just bored and I wanna have gunpowder weapons to blow things up

I used to play Empire through most of 6ed and Ill tell you that its a very flexible army to play.
If any army out there can do something you can do it almost just as good. The flipside though is that anything you can do theres someone out there that can do just alittle bit better. So you can build a gunline that does very well but a Dwarven gunline still outperforms you. You can go quite magic heavy but DE's can outcast you.
Only thing Empire really has that noone else can match is their hybrid abilities. Other armies can hybridise but you do it better. And you dont really have to sacrafice anything if you wanna specialize in something else.

I agree with everything Irtehdar just said. I use to play empire very early in the 6th edition. Versatillity was huge in this army. I could talor my list to whomever I was playing against. I personally don't see any draw backs to playing an Empire list. Sure you'll have to contend with leadership checks but thats a good thing. Games Workshop has almost taken fear and pyschology right out them game with the release of that last few books.
I think you'll have blast with them. Oh and theres the fact their cannons do D6 strength 10 hits!!!!! I remember dropping a Giant with one shot all the way across the board once :D .

I agree, versatility is key for empire. You can build and play your army to pretty much whatever style you like. Should be fun!

Just as long as you don't play the unfluffy but tournament-staple 'two stanks and war alter' list, then I'll be happy :)
