Title: Pick out someone out of a unit?
Spikes - September 25, 2009 06:27 PM (GMT)
A chariot charges a group of demon core troops with a herald in it. Can it choose to allocate the wounds on the herald because of it's unit strength?
If not, when do such possibilities occur?
Thanks!

The Impact Hits are allocated as shooting, so nothing on the character if the unit is 5+ size. The close combat hits can be allocated as normal, i e you can hit what you touch base to base.

It works like shooting, so if there are 5 or more non-champion/heroes in the unit, all impact hits goes against the unit. Otherwise you divide the hits evenly, randomizing remaining hits. :)

And that's even if the "thing" in the unit has a 40mm base or some such? Like a herald on juggernaut or something?
Is it only large targets that can be specifically shot at when placed in a unit?

Is it possible to put large target in unit?
Also, some weapons/special rules allow picking characters out of unit, but not impact hits.
Damn Empire snipers...

As stated, impact hits are randomized as shooting. Close combat swings can be directed though, just declare how your attacks are split up before rolling to hit and remember you have to be in b2b contact to hit something. ie. Choppy McDoomerson the chaos lord can't attack a character in the enemy unit if their bases aren't touching, even if their units are locked in combat.

If enemy US greater than 4 you can target it with shooting attack... Example Carnasour in unit of cold one can be targeted as seperated unit... so you can allocate all Impact hits on carnasour even if it is in a unit...

Ok; could someone tell me where this rule is.
Since it's about "unit strength" and not "characters" or "monsters" I can't remember a specific section about it in the BRB.

pg 74, BRB last paragraph under Characters Inside Units...
There might be the odd occassion of a non-character, but I can't think of one. Monsters and such are generally unable to join units (unless they also happen to be characers).
