Title: WAAAAAAGH!!!
Description: a choppa fest; for all things green!

waghi - October 26, 2009 07:49 AM (GMT)
WAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
I got the Orc army book. its incredible. After reading the tiny fluff and unit descriptions of the BoC book, its a flood of information.
I am really into orcs at the moment, as they are a great characterful army. Sure, they might not be the most competive army, but who cares!
My favourite orc units by fluff is the savage orcs, these guys really sum up the orc army for me - big, tough, smelly and green. I've made a 2250 army list for the boyz below.
So, experienced orc generals of this site, share your knowlegde of the boyz and any tips you can make for mustering the WAAAAAGH!!!

This is my savage orc army list, i intend to give everything warpaint, and the normal boyz will be modelled like the savage orcs. I know alot of people hate the savage orc models, but i love them!
Also, if anyone has any savage orc models or boar boyz, could you post them here so i can get some inspiration?

----------savage orc big uns CAN'T carry a magical banner

8 Forest Goblin Spider Riders, full command, short bows
-----this is kinda weird; banner is free VP and they suck in combat... i'd just use 5 with bow and musician; but if it works for you go ahead.

8 Savage Orc Boar Boyz, Big Uns, full command, spears, shields, War banner. 302 points
----- champion is excessive... xouldn't but it in, also if against a single character, he'll challenge you... = lot of wasted attacks.

30 Orc Boyz with extra choppa, full command and Mork’s Spirit Totem. 260 points
-regular orc boys can't take a magic banner unless they're upgraded to big ones

also just to keep in theme, why not use 10 savage orcs with champ and bow instead of 12 regular arrers... they shoot the same and hit harder in combat 3str5 from the champ should scare away opponents fast cav.

WAAAAAGH!!!!!

Damnit, I was getting a bit carried away at the thought of[COLOR=red] 4 strength 5 attacks for each savage orc : ( It makes a change to have a block of infantry that doesn't suck :P
I was thinking the spider riders would have the goblin hero join them, and they could possibly break small units with that extra combat res. The goblin hero will be the dreaded-dark-elf-noble-on-dragon-with-1+ armour-save-and-reverse-ward save killer.
I was going to put the champion in the boar boyz as that unit will also have the shaman and possibly the BSB in it, this will prevent them being challenged out.
I think ill squeeze the points of somewhere, probably cutting out the spider hero, and make the orc unit big uns. They are so awesome it hurts.

Hows this for a 500 point list?

Savage Orc Big Boss, extra hand weapon, light armour. 81 points

12 Savage Orc Boyz, extra choppa, full command. 128 points
27 Orc Boyz, full command, extra choppa. 219 points
5 Spider Riders, short bows. 70 points

Here are my thoughts.

Savage Orc Big Boss, light armour, Warboss Imbad’s Iron Gnasha’s, Amulet of Protectyness and extra hand weapon. 195 points

The light armour is a bit pointless here; due to his amulet of protectiness the only time he'll need atmour is when he hurts himself (rare to begin with and secondly this will generally be above str 4, so negating the armour). Save a couple of points and ditch this.

Savage Orc Big Boss, Battle Standard Bearer, Iron-Back Boar, light armour, shield, Martog’s Best Basha. 160 points

Orc (and goblin) BSBs may not take shields, you'll have to ditch this.

QUOTE (waghi @ Oct 26 2009, 07:49 AM)
Savage Orc Shaman, level 2, boar, Waagh Paint, dispel scroll. 156 points

Even with 5 powerdice and +2 casting (the best you are looking at) its going to be hard to get many spells off; you're looking at 4 spells a game tops versus even a simple caddy, assuming optimum conditions. Generally it will be closer to 1 or two. It may be worth making this guy purely defensive. If you don't like scroll caddys try giving him staff of sorcery instead (6DD with +1 to dispel isn't too bad). I assume this guy is going in the boar unit with the bsb? Be careful of having these characters baited out of the unit due to frenzy.

24 Savage Orcs, Big Uns, full command, extra Choppa, Nogg’s Banner of Butchery. 336 points

As said above, you'll have to drop this magic banner. Personally I think these guys work best as a small hammer unit, as you are using them in your 500 point list.

You may as well stick with theme and make these savages with bows, thats a nasty unit for protecting warmachines!

8 Forest Goblin Spider Riders, full command, short bows. 142 points
I'm not sure what the plan is for these, but don't forget fast cav don't get rank bonus if you plan to put your goblin big boss here.

8 Savage Orc Boar Boyz, Big Unz, full command, spears, shields, War banner. 302 points
Its going to be very hard to keep these guys intact. Especially with two characters in. I understand you may want the +1 rank for CR and waaagh, but I'm not sure if you'll even have two full ranks by turn 2! Big unz may be over kill here for points, especially as savage orc boar boyz don't need to be big unz for a magic banner.

Sorry my comments are blunt, they've been hurridly posted as it is close to bed.

My orc armies tend to be far less elite than what you are using so I can't be sure my comments are spot on. I can message you a sketch of what I use in 2250 if you think that will be help?

ukrocky - October 27, 2009 01:16 AM (GMT)
When I wake up tomorrow I'll post up my tournament winning (about 4 months ago) 2000pt orc list if you want?

waghi - October 27, 2009 06:09 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the comments, i redid the army list, i'm now using the savage orcs as more of a support unit.
Also, I have a name for my army - WAAAAAGH Flintstone :D

@ukrocky it would be great if you could post that.
Also, does anyone have any pictures, or know any pictures of converting normal orcs too look savage or like savage orcs?
much appreciated.

That list looks alot scarier now!

There are still a couple of changes I'd make.

Drop the boss in the big unz and use those points to move/upgrade 4 regular boyz into the big unz unit. Paying 15 points for an extra strength 4/5 attack is excessive and the extra boyz in the unit will help preserve some of your rank bonus/ dispel dice.

It may be worth scraping some points together to make one of the savage orc hammers big unz. If you make both units 11 man (deployed 6,5) and drop the boss you are only 8 points short. You could easily get these 8 points from the bow unit or the waaagh paint. Upgrading 13 attacks to str 4/5 instead of 3/4 is certainly worth it.

Its also a shame to see the giant go, he'd probably have drawn a lot of fire from the MST big unz/boar boyz, but over all it may be worth it.

Cool, made those changes.
2 questions - how do I use squig hoppers/how effective are they
would one of my savage orc 12 man unit be able to take on a fully ranked unit in combat? im thinking a unit of empire state troops or a unit of sarus or in the extreme, chaos warriors? also, how effective are they at holding and taking the charge?

Tauren - October 27, 2009 01:25 PM (GMT)
Saurus are closer to the extreme. With shield and spears saurus are tough and throw a lot of attacks for being standard foot-soldiers.

oinky - October 27, 2009 07:20 PM (GMT)
I use a savage orc warboss on boar with light armor/shield/shaga's screamin' sword and the collar of zorga.
I put him in a unit of 9 savage orc boarboyz (big 'uns)with the whaaagh! banner.
The amount of attacks with shaga's screamin' sword is incredible.I use chariots(extra crew+extra wolf) left and right of the unit to discourage frenzyluring and very usefull for combocharge.

The unit of 30 orcs seems a bit too large.I would go for 25.
Also try the snotling pumpwagons(2 near each other at one flank) and a small squigherd (9 squigs/6night goblins)They are fun and very usefull

Have fun ;)
