Title: 2014 Draft Discussion Thread

Gregs Devils - November 10, 2009 12:26 AM (GMT)
Hey guys the draft is upcoming so I am reviving the draft threads as we work through the playoffs.

POST ALL DISCUSSION HERE

After each pick in the draft I will be sending out email notifications to the next number of picks which will also indicate teams which have sent in picklists.

Of note we had some large draft groups on MSN last draft that went very well we will attempt to do the same. If you dont have MSN it might be worth it to just sign up for it for the draft, again not required.

Gregs Devils - November 10, 2009 12:27 AM (GMT)
Ive seen the odd request for the player scout for those of you who dont have the link from last draft, it its a handy tool to view the players in the player file.

You can and will be sending picklists into me at oh_canuck at yahoo.ca. If you pick right after me and you want to send you picklist to mike Im sure he gladly post your pick for you as well.

Gregs Devils - November 10, 2009 12:28 AM (GMT)
Here is an excel extract of the draft class

As the NHL finals will be underway tomorrow night and will be over by next Wednesday, we need to start planning a date for the draft.

The AHL playoffs are about to hit Rnd 3, and by the finals it isn't unusual to see multiple sims all in the same night even, so that shouldn't be much later than the NHL finals.

I think by now most people have done their scouting.

I propose Saturday Nov 28 as the start date, with the usual 'draft board open' three days prior. Is that too soon, are is everyone more or less ready? There are maybe 10 teams not checked in to the draft activity thread here, some of whom are around but lazy. Do we have any COMP teams at the moment?:

Draft Activity Thread

Gregs Devils - November 18, 2009 12:37 AM (GMT)
Draft clock always starts the first Friday after the Stanley Cup finals, 5PM.

I will open the first round draft thread on the Wednesday so guys will be able to make picks then if they want!

I hope to have all the activity checks done by then, I know we will have a couple of vacant spots. Minny for sure.

Nice thing is many of the teams I believe to be vacant dont have first round picks

SJ MontrealGM - November 19, 2009 07:55 PM (GMT)
If you need help with selections for vacant teams Im happy to pitch in, I dont think I have a pick until late in the 2nd round.

Calgary - November 24, 2009 04:52 AM (GMT)
So is the draft going to officially start this friday? Or a week from friday?

Macaskill - November 24, 2009 05:36 AM (GMT)
I still haven't done any scouting :(

Calgary - November 24, 2009 05:38 AM (GMT)
I had to stop playing Dragon Age so I could start scouting :o

Gregs Devils - November 24, 2009 08:17 AM (GMT)
Ill post the first round thread on Wednesday and guys can start making selections early.

On Friday the formal draft clock will start.

kraigus - November 24, 2009 10:45 AM (GMT)
Thanks for volunteering to help with the empty teams guys, we might take you up on it. A few years ago we had Cerebral (he of no first round picks ever ever) helping out, so there's precedent.

Gregs Devils - November 26, 2009 04:59 AM (GMT)
Sorry guys I was hoping to get it up before supper but I had an early hockey practice and had to work late bad combo...

Anyway Ive posted the substitute selectors to the draft baord and open the draft board you may pick when ready if your pick is up.

I dont start the official clock until Friday at 5PM.

Gregs Devils - November 26, 2009 05:02 AM (GMT)
btw I forgot to mention i updated the draft thread to show the stanley cup winner pick adjusted to pick 30

WiLDBiL - November 26, 2009 05:24 AM (GMT)
And the 1st pick is in!

Ottawa picks up a 2 way stud with the 1st pick, for the second year in a row. Don Cherry would be proud!

Ottawagmdave - November 26, 2009 05:38 AM (GMT)
yes go me now if only the rest of the team can come together we may have a start of something good :D

USC Trojans - November 26, 2009 09:04 AM (GMT)
Alright, that makes my pick sliiiightly easier to make.

I now have 3 guys to choose from instead of 4. ;)

mugu - November 26, 2009 09:49 AM (GMT)
dammit thats who i wanted as well

Ottawagmdave - November 26, 2009 12:20 PM (GMT)

Gregs Devils - November 26, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
hey guys im in a workshop all day so I wont have computer access please feel free to pm the next guy on the list once you make your selection.

You guys can just pick when ready once your pick is up next.

If you make any trades please PM Kraigus, USC, Gamblor, Elphy, Washington, or Mugu

Calgary - November 27, 2009 02:57 AM (GMT)
well the first two picks are what i was expecting

Gregs Devils - November 27, 2009 03:04 AM (GMT)
i really like Rienhart I thought he might fall out of fear like Kessel did a few years back...look how he turned out though.

One good thing about Reinhart is that due to his slow development, its a possibility he'll spend 2 years in the minors, which means 2 ceiling boosts for him.

Ryno - November 27, 2009 03:31 AM (GMT)
I actually had Reinhart 1 and Catenacci 2, but there are really 5 or 6 guys that are interchangeable.

Excellent picks Adrian and Dave.

mugu - November 27, 2009 08:45 AM (GMT)
well there go the two guys i had 1 and 2
now to draft some bum....
besides no one will remember who was drafted 4th anyways :D

i may need help getting away from it

Macaskill - November 27, 2009 07:48 PM (GMT)
A lot of interesting offers in the last bit, but I've decided to go ahead and use the pick to draft as I had originally planned. With Koskinen, I now have two 88POT goalies (The other is Zadar) and Steve Mason to boot.

I'll definitely looking to move 1 or 2 of these netminders in the near future, but figured it best to go ahead and draft the guy I wanted so I'd have more time to make a deal than the 15 minutes or so I have left before needing to head out.

WiLDBiL - November 27, 2009 08:01 PM (GMT)
Always hard to predict when the top goalies will go out of the draft - but no surprise to see Koskinen go early. Bobkov will still likely go in the 1st as well.

I'll continue to bug you about Zador over the season . . . ;)

Gregs Devils - November 27, 2009 11:58 PM (GMT)
FYI
Ive switched the vacant teams that nashville and Montreal are making selections for.

Alex Gainey - November 28, 2009 12:36 AM (GMT)
just for fun -
my prerank was:

1 Justin Sefton
2 Griffin Reinhart
3 Daniel Catenacci
4 Mikhail Grigorenko
5 Mikko Koskinen

;)

yeah.....pretty much the same depending on what position you were most looking to fill....that was my top 5 as well........

speed it up Ryno  thought you didn't want to hold up the draft

WiLDBiL - November 28, 2009 12:44 AM (GMT)
You had Sefton higher than Reinhart?!

Reinhart does have a loooooong way to go

Washington GM - November 28, 2009 01:00 AM (GMT)
I had sexton #1 as well.

Any trade committee guys we have a trade for #6 that needs approval.

DallasGM-Gamblor - November 28, 2009 01:03 AM (GMT)
I had Griffey #1, Sefton/Sexton #2. I wasn't sure about Catenacci or Grigs for #3/#4. I'd never pick a goalie, but Koskinen is pretty okay.
