Title: Why Do You Watch And Rewatch?

kimurafan - November 7, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
Have you ever watched one movie over and over and over again? It could be a series or a movie by itself.

I have. I have watched Jet Li's Bodyguard from Beijing over 20 times because there was a near kiss/ a seduction. Jet Li has never been known to be an actor into bed scenes or kissing and that was the closest, closest ever to a real one. I don't think I have watched any movie and that section more times than this one ever in my life as though if I watch it again, I would see his lips a tiny bit closer to the girl this time around.

Silly me.

What's yours? Describe the movie and the scene !

smappie123 - November 7, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
 The one and only movie which I’ve watched and rewatched and rewatch(countless times because I never really count it but really a lot) will be Speed by Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, the bomb set to explode if the bus goes beyond 50MPH. Main reason for it will be I love Keanu Reeves, he is really beautiful in my eyes and secondary reasons will be I like his on-screen chemistry with Sandra Bullock, and of course their kiss at the end of the movie. Basically in the past whenever there’s a movie by Keanu Reeves in the cinema, I’ll watch it even if it means getting the ticket and watching it by myself.

:love1: wow, kimurafan the new skin colour looks great esp the colour matches with your Goro avatar :D marking a refreshing day of the month.

I voted for can't get enough of the actor --- Takeshi in HOFD is my most rewatched movie over 20+ times... also Keanu Reeves in Replacements...

can't get enough of the kiss ----- that would be chapter 4 of Golden Bowl.... the 5 seconds kiss

can't get enough of the bed scene/passionate scene ----- i can foresee "Perhaps Love" on this one.

can't get enough of the fighting ----- Takeshi's movie "Hero" wher he chopped all those bad guys arms with a sword... LOL... and also Bichunmoo

can't get enough of the drama ----- God please give me more time and The Notebook

can't get enough of the story ----- There ar lots but would mostly be stories with happy endings

tvbtiger - November 8, 2005 08:21 AM (GMT)
None.

I rewatch movie for whole movie - because it's a good movie, worth watching. Even if an actor/director/story was the initial reaason to watch it, if it becomes one of my favs - it's bec it was really good one in general. One scene can't make it.

So... none of the choices :P

aragon - November 9, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
Kimurafan, I can only vote for 1? what if I can't get enough of everything?

Wow, some of you really amaze me. Re-watch a movie over 20x?

I've never done that. The most maybe 5x. That could be the LOTR series.

Ok, so I voted for the 1st case - can't get enough of the kiss
1-Aragon & Arwen in The Two Towers - so romantic, so touching...
2-Keanu & ??? in one of the Matrix series (sorry, don't quite like sci-fi but I happened to watch the scene. Didn't expect to find passion here)
3-Yes, the tentative kiss between Akutagawa & Hitomi in GB, come on, KISS HER, will you?

Others which I have watched more than once and can recall at the moment;

The actor
1-TK in Golden Bowl - so beautiful
2-Viggo as Aragon - a figure of strength, mysterious, romantic, vulnerable
3-Keanu in S'thing Gotta Give - yummy doctor
4-Johnny Depp in Chocolate - where he plays a normal character

Passionate scene
1-Olivier M & Diane L in Unfaithful - what a seducer. Made me J.O.H. :arr:
(Yet to watch Viggo & Diane in A Walk on the Moon)
2-A latin movie which I can't recall the title ;)

Fight scene
1-Brad Pitt in Fight Club - I go for real fight scene, not the matrix type
2-Epic wars/fight - Braveheart, First Knight, Troy, LOTRs
3-Gun/Western - Thombstone

The story
1-LOTRs
2-Tempting Heart - This must be my most watched movie too. A tragedy. Everytime I watched I wish the story could be different, yet still I watched.

The drama
Legends of the Fall - brothers' love & betrayal, beautiful landscape and Brad

The romance
Julia and Richard in Pretty Woman

Can I add, Funny & entertaining
Maverick

Sorry Kimurafan. I'm getting carried away, again.

soha98 - November 9, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
you mean voluntary rewatching, for pure joy of watching, right? sometimes i'm forced to rewatch the same thing over 10 times...

believe it or not, i've been watching Takeshi's Golden Bowl series and Antarctic Adventure at least 2-3 times a week whenever i eat meals at home, for almost one year since i got the DVDs...i guess that's truly "can't get enough of" activity, right? i'm sometimes really obssessive over a few things...just a few things...

those two TK works just make me feel so relaxed, comfy, and happy...
well, i've seen most of other Takeshi movies more than 15 times except Tempting Heart and Space Traveller(their ending is too sad, and i couldn't dare to watch them again), but for Golden Bowl and Antarctic Adventure, i'm just amazed that the DVDs are still running without being worn out . i'm ready to buy another sets in case they're worn out. am i crazy or what?

mrs_jingles - November 12, 2005 03:25 PM (GMT)
I agree with Shoto, that mostly I watch movies again b/c of the movie itself. The exceptions are of course my favorite actors. One of my first loves was an english actor called Leonard Whiting. When I was 11, I watched the movie "Romeo and Juliet" from Franco Zeffirelli, 1969 and fell completely in love with the guy, and of course, the biggest love story of all times! For my luck, the movie was played almost every year on Valentine's day in an old cinema in Mexico City. Shortly: after watching it 23 times on the cinema I stopped counting. :yikes2: Of course I own now the DVD and I watch from time to time, to recall my old days.....
And now Takeshi. I' watche HOFD 4 times on the theater and till now about another 4 times on DVD. Returner I've seen about 6-7 times, and Tempting Heart and Sleepless town about 3-4 times each. I always rewind, and re-rewind, slo-mo etc specially the hot sex scenes from ST and the kissing on HOFD. TK just turns-me-on. :love4: :love4:
As you see Soha, you're not alone on this one ;)

Angela - November 16, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
I voted for "the actor" since that is the reason I will collect a bazillion (technical term) DVDs of "some asian guy" (hubby's term). It started with Donnie Yen and has since moved to TK...and on and on.

Many people mention watched HoFD many times...well the one part that I always have to pause/rewind, pause/rewind, is when Andy Lau takes off his blind fold and smiles at ZZ's character in the woods. :faint: His smile is to freakin die for!

But I also wanted to comment on Aragon's post:

1. Johnny Depp in Chocolat. LOVED HIM! and the movie too! Awesome, awesome flick (did you see him as Willy Wonka?)

2.

I often wish TK had played the role OM played...what a movie that woulda been, huh? I can totally see it! And, what is JOH? I'm stumped.

 Of course no one knows. It's my own created short-form though the actual words were created by someone else on this forum. If that person happens to read this, she should know. :arr: :arr:

Mind you the term is for married woman only. So Angela, you can use this term too whenever the need arises. It's short for JUMP-ON-HUBBY. (tenses applied accordingly) :laughing5:

Yes, I've watched Willy Wonka but I wish to see more of JD in normal characters. ;)

And YES, I can picture TK playing OM's character. The sexy longish hair, the expressive eyes, the charming careless attitude, an older woman... :faint: :faint:

I thought I'm the only one who loves Brad here. :D

It's a nice feeling to share. But of course I'll never match your record of 32x :yikes2:

Angela - November 17, 2005 01:52 PM (GMT)
 I really like Troy...but not Brad Pitt in this movie :o I kept wishing someone would kill his character  I was totally feeling Eric Bana in that one I'm afraid. But mind you, it was the character I didn't like.

Ai_Shifu - December 15, 2005 08:25 AM (GMT)
There are only two movies that I've watched like "gazillion" times.

The first one is "The end of the affair" after the Graham Greene book with Ralph Finnes and Jullian Moore. (I always cry my eyes out being a drama addict and all!!! :P ).

And the second one is "Happy Together" with Tony & Leslie because is a genuine love story!

And the reason and where I casted my vote is: because of the stories!

Kris93 - February 12, 2006 09:58 AM (GMT)
i voted for the actor....it's tk's movies and only his...whether i like the story or not, i'll watch it because tk is in it.

Ashes Wishes - October 13, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
I can say truthfully that I've seen 'The Fifth Element' more than 100 times. I've watched it once in month since... since forever. When the movie first came, father got it on VHS. I watched it so much it broke. Then came DVD's and after that I've seen the movie so many times it's pretty scary. >____>;

I love it for it's story and look. The actors are great, as are the music.
I think there won't be any movie that perfect as 'The Fifth Element' is.

HimeNoKuri - October 13, 2006 11:59 PM (GMT)
i like so many movies star wars i liiked High school Musical I liked little mermaid any disney dvds

fallen_angel - October 20, 2006 01:32 PM (GMT)
There can be alot of reasons...but mostly its because of the actor i guess...hehehe :squint:
i mean...even if its a kiss or bed scene...it still involved the actor so yeah...
i would vote the actor part...

I think I just found my mate. :kiss3:

But SPEED was the only movie I rewatched like countless times... I remember back then the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning, was to play the video... it's like my breakfast, and this goes on for at least a week. I don't know what captured me to love it so much. It's the adrenaline... it's Keenu Reeves + Sandra Bullock... I love this couple, so imagine my joy when I know they co-starred again in THE LAKEHOUSE. I was crying like mad for that movie too (I love the original Korean version Il mare already) It wasn't long ago before I found both movies on a flight back to SG... so imagine me switching between the 2 movies. LOL! I think I even bought the OST for SPEED... which was still cassette tape form back then. That was how poisoned I am. I hate the TV version though, coz they mute all the F words... makes it sound so unnatural... But yeah, it was my favourite movie. :love7:

I vote for the story. Not just like the story, but sometimes I can learn something from the story.
Oh my SPEED. I like it! How many times I've seen it! But it's not beause I intend to, it's showed on our local TV many many times and I did love to watch it again :D

Same with that Jimmy Lin's movie with Bo Bo Ho. Sorry didn't know the title till now. Jimmy Lin's role is poor boy who finally died T_T Everytime I saw it, everytime I cried hard T_T

Then Jet Li's Wong Fei Hung's movie. I watched it many many times too :D
More, Alien 1-resssurection.. I like it and rewatched it.

Uh, what else? I think I have some more. When I like the story, I can rewatch it again and again.

Oh, some of Kimura drama's, surely I've watched it many times. 10 times? Yes, I thinkso especially for Pride & Good Luck. JDG's drama All About Eve..
The next is Pride and Prejudice (BBC version) and Emma (Jane Austen; Gwyneth Paltrow's). 1 Litre of Tears drama. Yeah, made me cried hard everytime I saw.
