OMG, I just took a look at a fan made video of this series and this is the first time I realized there is some nuances of gay love???? :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:

Don't tell me the ending....but I'm terribly hyped at the moment. I'll have to take this out and watch it!!!

Does all KK dramas talk about this love????

I love this dorama
Koichi and tsu each get to play different roles of emotions in this dorama

eventhough ningen shikaku also one of my favourites
but this one beat ningen as Tsu stays alive in this whole dorama

if you like story about friendship this is one of it
and this story one of the reason I never thought tsu comes from a wealthy family
;)

There might be torrents for WnK with Chinese subs, but I don't think English subs exist. You could also try getting Asian VCDs, google around for them.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I saw Ningen Shikkaku and Miman City. You already know about Ningen Shikkaku. I read your summaries. :) Man, it's so dark. Miman City does have homoerotic nuances, but on the surface, it's just for comedy's sake. There's a scene where they're both really cold in a tent so one of them offers to share sleeping bags and blankets. Then they wake up in each other's arms. Each boy has a female love interest (as per usual), but there is some subtextual stuff. While they were living in the tent it was pretty clear that Koichi's character was like the 'breadwinner' and Tsuyoshi's character stayed around their 'home' to prepare a hot bath for Koichi's character, etc.

Spoiler: Later, when Koichi helped fulfil Tsuyoshi's wish so he could play the guitar for another kid, Tsuyoshi got him some shampoo, which he had really wanted. LOL And in the end they literally ride off together into the sunset.

I had the opportunity to watch Wakaba no koro and I really enjoyed the whole series.

The Bee Gees song (First of May) they opened with was well-chosen and after the first two or three episodes, I began to feel very emotional about the song, especially because of the repeated v.o. of Tsuyoshi's character that starts every episode along with it. He mused about youth, life, death and what passed between him and Koichi's character, which he said he would always associate with his younger days. The end credits footage and KinKi's song, FRIENDS also became very touching.

The chemistry between Koichi and Tsuyoshi was (and to me, is) really something. Even with the lead female character, it still felt like their characters were the ones who were meant to be together. Of course, the script itself had a significant role in producing this feeling, in my opinion.

If I have some free time this month, I'll try to write a recap of the episodes based on the translation and what little I know of the original language.

I was speaking to someone about this series and how there are several similarities shared with the (much) more recent Nobuta wo produce. NWP is funnier overall and its female lead is a more positive figure, but I think WNK is more meaty (less escapist) and the acting is also much better. In any case, we also thought it might not make much sense to compare the two dramas content-wise because one could say they're of two different generations with era-specific concerns and limitations.

One amusing thing that is still on my mind is how Tsuyoshi's character's favorite meal is beef stew. Or maybe I'm just a dork and not everything is interconnected. :D
