When I saw Elysia put the question name your three favorite Kinki Kids songs, I was telling myself, "You got to be kidding, Elysia. You're asking for the impossible."
Haha...because it is impossible.
If you ask me the same questions for SMAP, V6, Gackt, Hyde, Masaharu Fukuyama, Mr. Children, Misia, Utada Hikaru, I could tell you quite simply and quickly. I could tell you easily also for those non-singers, my favoirte three songs from people like Tony Leung, Nicholas Tse, Stephen Fung, Louis Koo, Andy Lau. But I wouldn't be able to tell you if I have to narrow it down to three for Rain, Jay Chou, Lee Hom Wang, Jacky Cheung. And Kinki Kids is in the second category. There are just too many good songs from them. If they hadn't been a good duo, I seriously wouldn't have started a separate section when I am quite swamped already. But they represent quality in my books to tell the truth.
So after a long time of searching and shortlisting, I'll give you my list.
1. Top 3 songs of Kinki Kids for you. This song
硝子の少年 (Glass Youth) represents Kinki Kids and it is one of my favorite songs without fail. It has energy and youth in it.
情熱 (Passion/Jonetsu) is a step up in their mid career and is still energetic for listening. For me, Kinki Kids is energy and passion.
I like a lot of their slow songs. I would easily have put in 10 songs including Solitude, Winter Kill and etc etc but I'll put one recent one in.
Love is in the I album is beautifully sung. The accompanying music did not compete with the song itself during intervals and that's an important part of a good slow song. Harmony of December, Anniversary, Snow, Snow, Snow all failed in the second test.
http://www.139mtv.com/PlayMusic/164185.htmI could have put in 蓝色の夜风 Blue Night Wind, track 2 of I album too, but I'm limiting it to only 3 songs, so I have to forgo that one.
http://www.139mtv.com/PlayMusic/164174.htm2. Top 3 albums/singles of Kinki Kids that you would recommend anyone to buy.If you have the money, I suggest you buy album A-I, KK Selection 1, 2.
But if you have limited funds, then I would highly suggest the following:
Kinki Kids Selection I
From Album A-E, there are many good songs that showcase the younger voices of Tsuyoshi and Koichi. This album has the best from each of those albums plus Happy Happy Greeting which is an extremely fun song to own. The earlier albums have many fast uplifting songs, and also some songs typical of JE's groups that are hard to stomach for elderlies like me. Even my kids wouldn't listen to them...haha...so a brief intro album for their earlier works would be this album.
G album
Between G album and H album, I'll choose G album hands down. H has a few good tracks but it just doesn't warrant buying. G has 9 good songs. Between G and Kinki Kids Selection II album, I would still choose G album.
I album
You may have read my review tearing half of the songs apart in I album but believe it or not, I highly recommend everyone to buy this album until I hear a J or K album. You could hear the mature voice of Koichi much more romantically in this album in the slow songs. The slow tracks are beautiful. I would have chosen futari as the third favorite song of KK if Love is was not in the way. 真冬のパンセ the first track is the mature Kinki Kids singing with Kinki Kids spirit. This album reminds me who Kinki Kids are after a few dull if not devastating singles from that summer Osaka styled song onwards. I thought they were going down the drain for good...but this album save this section. :P :P :P
3. Top 3 songs of Tsuyoshi be it solo in KK album or Endlicheri Endlicheri albumsWhen I listen to Kinki Kids earlier songs, Tsuyoshi's voice is so sweet, so unique. He stands out in the song, leaving Koichi way behind and I could say that if not for their TV appearance, Kinki Kids could have been Tsuyoshi the kid singing and no one would have minded because he dominated all the songs and I could hardly hear Koichi.
When I heard Tsuyoshi's Coward album, I knew I wanted to start this section for real because now I find someone's songs that I like.
This song
これだけの日を跨いで来たのだから in Coward won me over considering that he composed it.
http://www.139mtv.com/PlayMusic/115867.htmI like 4/5 of the songs in Coward. I also like Si album a lot and would choose
Devil from that album because that song has an injured soul in it.
In Waver album, I had wanted to choose Original Color too but instrumentally at times, it was louder than I want for a perfect song. Tsuyoshi has a loud enough voice to match with slightly louder music accompaniment. Koichi doesn't, nor does Kat-Tun members' individual solos or T&T for that matter. JE boys seriously should stick with group singing or soft slow songs for the sake of listeners because their voices cannot be amplified like Tsuyoshi's.
So I would choose the second track instead.
恋のカマイタチhttp://www.139mtv.com/PlayMusic/54057.htmI like Rosso E Azzuro when it is watched as a DVD, not for pure listening because the songs are more for show. I don't really know what to do with Neo Africa Rainbow Ax. Obviously at least 77,000 people like it enough to buy it.
http://www.139mtv.com/Html/MusicList_15139.htmOnly 宇宙の雨はね 二人で, Track 7, is listenable.
http://www.139mtv.com/PlayMusic/189920.htmThe rest has way too many synthesizers for my taste and he is drowning his voice in electronic buzz. I am afraid that at this rate, one day, he would produce an album of guitar sounds and will be spending 3 hours on stage tuning his guitar. :laughing2: :laughing1:
hahaha....Tsuyoshi fans of course will know I won't leave him in peace...
4. Top 3 Endlicheri Endlicheri albums/singles that you would recommend anyone to buyDefinitely Coward album, Si Album And Waver single!!! A must!!!
5. Top 3 Koichi Domoto songs be it solo in KK album or solo effortsKoichi's early solos are very cute, very young. I definitely like Wish and I. But for the top three, I would choose songs that showcases Koichi's dance for Koichi is dance. There is no other way I could see him, although his singing voice is beginning to stand on its own too. When I watched him do Deep in the Heart in Music Station Live this year, singing live, I was very impressed by him.
No. 1 song: Love Me More
Because I think that is truly Koichi! He wants to sing fast songs and louder songs like So Young Blues but he is better off with Love Me More type of songs. And I could not forget the clip I saw how he danced to this song in the Taiwan concert in the rain. It is just incredible!
http://www.1ting.com/player/c2/player_125252.htmlNo. 2 song
Between Kagen no Tsuki (下弦の月) and Tsukiyono Monogatari (月夜ノ物語) and Yoru no Umi (夜の海), gosh...it is so hard...but I will have to say Tsukiyono Monogatari (月夜ノ物語) because it is a calmer and prettier song. And he performed it so well. The other two songs are very good too especially Kagen no Tsuki because he wrote it and directed it too. But I could only choose one so I could leave room for the third one. :arr:
Yoru no Umi (夜の海)

http://www.1ting.com/player/c2/player_125252.htmlNo. 3 song
I would choose one song from the Mirror album because that is his latest work and I have a hard time choosing. As hard as choosing for Kinki Kids because every song is beautifully composed fit for his voice and fit for his dance moves.
You should just listen to it yourself.
http://www.1ting.com/album/86/album_9073.htmlI wanted to say One More XXX but it is similar style to Love Me More. So I'll settle with Spica. Spica retains the Kinki Kids flavor and he shows that not only he could sing seriously when Tsuyoshi is not around blasting his ears out    but he could literally write songs Kinki Kids style.
If Kinki Kids albums in the future are not just their regular composer's work but a joint cooperation of Koichi and Tsuyoshi efforts, could you imagine how much more rich the album would be. Futari is a good example. Spica is a good example. And Tsuyoshi's composition tweaked a bit higher tone would be perfect for both.
I long for that day. Hyde could compose for both L'Arc en Ciel and his own solos. Why can't Koichi and Tsuyoshi both contribute more songs to the KK label?
6. Top 3 Koichi Domoto albums/singles you would recommend anyone to buy. Buy them all!
So spake kimurafan...
Here's a song that I'm looping from G album
