um.. actually it seems that the idea came from Koichi.. he said that while discussing about songs for H album, since the title is H album, they should put only H-type songs in it (in Japanese H is a short form of hentai, which I think has more of a pervert/ero connotation, instead of just sexy..?). He said Tsuyoshi agreed to that suggestion -- and you can hear the interviewer giggling in the background :lol: though whether that's because of the idea of writing a hentai album or because Koichi said Tsuyo agreed, I'm not sure..

Correction: Koichi out of the blue mentioned that the song Renrui ended up being written in the female speech (in Japanese, based on certain words in the sentence you can actually distinguish whether it's supposedly spoken by a man or a woman.. for example, the word for "you" in Renrui is "anata", which is female speech) -- he then mischievously pointed out that Ai no Katamari, another one of their collaboration, also ended up written in the female speech.. :lol: pandering to fans' preference for rabu-rabu between the two? :huh: :lol:

Ok, I finally managed to work on Tsuyoshi's interview from H album..
Unfortunately I'm still stuck at Renrui portion, but since it's been so long, I decided to post the first part (up to 04:27)

Part 1

responding to some earlier, unknown question
That's right.. We gathered a lot of songs – up tempo ones, rock ballad ones, all kinds – and from these we carefully selected some, and then we discussed about how to do the arrangements. Somehow in the end we have this “this time we did it!” feeling.

on his solo song in H album
This time there’s no self-composed solo song. Although in the beginning I thought of writing one, in the end rather than doing that, I thought “it’s not a bad idea to have someone write the song for me”. So for my solo part this time, Kawaguchi Kyoko wrote the song. Later Koichi composed that song (Renrui) and I wrote the lyrics to it. With this collaboration, somehow there’s this group feeling. Although we’ve always have plenty of that (togetherness), somehow words just cannot explain it, but this time the feeling is stronger than usual.

on Breath
Kawaguchi Kyoko wrote this song for me. Some time ago, when we were doing (a) variety show, we kind of joked about working together, This song is the realization of that. It is different than what I would usually write myself. Singing it gives a fresh feeling, and although I finally got it, I feel that it’s quite a difficult song. There’s very little orchestration sound-wise. It’s full of pauses, so the balance before and after became a bit strange, and the entire song’s balance became rather strange. The starting key was so low that it felt like putting on the brakes. (? not sure about this section) It’s exceedingly difficult. But I had a lot of fun singing it.

on 99% Liberty
Yes, there is, by Oda-san. Oda Tetsuro-san composed the song, while Maeda-san wrote the lyrics. Even though he’s written songs for many artists, Maeda-san personally called. Both myself and Koichi had a lot of discussions with Oda-san – “this melody is somewhat…”, “haven’t we heard something like this before somewhere?”, “to make this melody stands out, please make the lyrics expresses a little more frustration”, “please phrase this more strongly” – that kind of things. (Because of that) this song took quite some time to finish. But it’s an up tempo song, something fresh for KinKi, I think.

Part 2

on Renrui
First of all, (it’s about) things that made you shed tears in a love relationship. (In describing) all kinds of tears you shed for love, I used a generic term “Renrui”. It’s written in female speech. In contrast to that kind of tears of love, this is a catchy song with easy-to-sing words. Tears of love is something that doesn’t come twice, something that wouldn’t just come upon you. Also, the part about “glimmers of light at the end of the night sky” it’s like saying “let’s not ever quarrel”.. that kind of lyrics. The girl (of this song) is determined not to let this love be bent no matter what. The very first line of the lyrics began with “Tears of love, even if I win, no hard feelings”, giving the feel of for this love only, nothing would be bent. Although this is not a really straightforward expression, somehow there’s still a sense of a woman’s perspective of love. For example, in “Renrui”, this song is about a girl who said she will “swallow everything for you, leaving nothing behind.”.
When I first heard the melody, I wasn’t sure whether to use male speech (for the lyrics). But somehow the melody that he (Koichi) wrote lends itself more towards female speech. Although now it’s relatively common (to have women using certain male speech vocabularies, and vice versa), previously when you hear a lady sings “boku” or “bokura”, you would think “eh??”, right? Actually I quite like the jarring feeling you get when you hear words like “boku wa” being sung softly (by women as opposed to by men).
Anyway, I was wondering what to do, when I suddenly hit upon the idea of trying to write (the lyrics) in female speech, and before I knew it it’s finished. From then on, it got rather addictive, such that even now when I write songs I use the female speech quite often. Sometimes you just have the feeling that certain type of sound is more “female”. Men are simple-minded, so they will express things in a very straightforward way. In contrast, women have some kind of pride, I think. Rather than brushing aside criticism, if despite paying a lot of attention to their looks they still aren’t lucky in love, they would consider that as something to hide. With men, it’ll be “I want to start again” – they don’t think too carefully about the things they want to know, but for women that’s unforgivable. Yes, somehow there’s that kind of excessive feeling. When I’m writing lyrics, I usually will imagine if it’s a woman, most probably she will be like this, though I’m not sure if I’m right. But when you start to live with a woman, you will realise you don’t understand her. Yes, it’s quite difficult. But that’s what an unknown world is about, isn’t it? Since there are differences in gender when you use it there would be unusual emphasis. The female speech is really quite fun.
When you sing (this song), there are sentence-ending particles like “da”, “da wa”, etc. which makes a melody rings. I kind of like this, aggressive yet quite delicate. I kind of like that balance. Yeah.

on Anniversary
For this song... first of all, the intro is pretty strong. It’s the first time I heard it. The (content of the) lyrics is about a couple who have been married for a few years. Listening to it, I feel that this lyrics basically says “To be together like that is really neat”. Often when I’m writing lyrics, I’d feel “why is it that I can’t really write this kind of (sweet) lyrics?” Although I can’t write (that way), the lyrics that I write for my solo often have this feel of what it would be like if I’m transformed to a 30-something, and this me, on becoming a 60-something, having my own kids and grandchildren. At times like that, I’d want to write about “seeing this scenario, it can make you cry like this” that kind of feeling. If I get married and can have children, my own family, although this kind of feeling is somewhat clingy, I wonder what I would do. That line (in the song) “so today, this random day, is our anniversary”, that nonchalant way (of saying it), though it may seem like a casual love, it’s actually an immense love. The song and the lyrics really let you think about a lot of things. Singing it brings such a great feeling, and somehow I really think that this song fits very well with KinKi’s situation at that time. I like this song very much.

This is Domoto Tsuyoshi. [laughs] Ok, I will limit myself in conveying this last message to all of you, since it looks like some rain clouds are gathering. Anyway..
