Title: Concert Dvd Reviews
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
If anyone would like to comment on the latest DVD of the concert in terms of how you enjoyed their editing, singing ability and etc, feel free to post.
I know I am always very slow in watching programs but I'll post anyway so that you wouldn't think that I don't care. I've been busy and have just started watching the 2007 Phi concert bit by bit. (I haven't even watched the official 10th anniversary one or any of the fan cam in details.)

2. [DISC1] lOve in the φ
The opening song Love in the Phi really took me by surpise. I did not expect Tsuyoshi to be dancing that way. I mean a few phrases into the song, he was gyrating his hips and my eyeballs almost popped out. I don't know why but for some reason, the cameraman kept focusing on Tsuyoshi or perhaps because the shinier side of Tsuyoshi's pants is closer to the center, it kept getting my attention and that's the illusion. OMG...this Tsuyoshi is so much younger and cuter than the one in his own solos....haha
Totally love his facial hairless look to become Kinki Kids once again. Very nicely surprised.
3. [DISC1] Bonnie Butterfly
OMG, I was just translating the entire G album and it is Bonnie Butterfly that I did not translate on my own but used mognet's translation. It is so cute, so very cute to watch Koichi sing the first refrain in English. I know he sang on top of a track too but he wasn't lip syncing in the first two phrases. So very cute and in that type of a voice!
What really got me really mad is that this editor kept showing the back of the dancers, the big picture and more of Tsuyoshi. Perhaps it was Tsuyoshi's closeup of hat and jacket now that kept on getting my attention. Ah, perhaps other fans could verify what I see. Somehow, Koichi's shots were brief and momentary of a couple of seconds but Tsuyoshi has 3 -6 seconds each. :hair: :hair: I want equal treatment! Equal treatment.
Why can't Koichi wear a hat too? Or why can't be Tsuyoshi be hatless too? I am so jealous...hahaha...
But I enjoy the Tsuyoshi bits so much....ROFL. He rolled his hips in the beginning but the one that really knocked me dead was when Koichi sang this phrase
24 hours kimi o dounika shitai ai no nai mirai wa mirenai taipu
Sukoshi muri shiteru
24 hours, I want you one way or the other, you're the type that always ignores a future without love
It's a little too much for me
Oh my good lord, he put his hand right in the front whereas none, none of the dancers did that. OMG...what are the fathers going to say now for their poor little girl's eyes who suddenly get riveted to his center.
:laughing5: :laughing2: :laughing1:
Okay, excuse me, 14 year old fans. Sorry about bringing attention to the finer points of anatomy but you should have known that this board has older administrators who don't just write one word hot or awesome. I have a tendency to go into details :drool3:
So for this song, I want to whack the cameraman 100 times across the face for not showcasing Koichi properly. I wonder if it is Koichi's instruction to play up Tsuyoshi. If so, he's really nice to Tsuyoshi fans!
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
4. [DISC1] 涙、ひとひら
This is the Kinki Kids song that I have been waiting for and it is so good that they put it in the beginning of the concert. The moment it came up, I already miss Koichi and his drama a lot. I also wish these two would be in a drama again with such a lively theme song one day.
Hope Koichi would cameo in Tsuyoshi's new drama.
Anyway, nice song, well sung. Tsuyoshi's voice is fantastic as usual!
5. [DISC1] Harmony of December
This song I remember when it came out, I kept laughing at Tsuyoshi for looking like a woman in the MV and probably angered a lot of Tsuyoshi fans and I thought the song was okay. Now one and a half year later, I find myself looping this song even in the summer.
The cute part of course was when Tsuyoshi sang: (If the translation is not correct, pls correct it at the Lyrics thread).
Futo kizukeba itsumo tonari de waratteru Boku no kokoro ni saku hana
Interweaved fingers has very gentle temperature that belongs only to two persons
and he walked towards Koichi with arm outstretched.
Then as Tsuyoshi turned away, Koichi extended his arm towards his back and sang
Kimi ni aitai Ima aitai Hanareta ichibyou mo
Boku no omoi wa Yozora samayou shiroi hane sa
Kimi wo daite Habataite Towa yori mo kanata e
Kienaide ite Kono koi yo zutto
Suddenly noticing You always smiling by the side
Just like flowers blooming in my heart
Want to see you See you now Even if separated for one second
My love is The white wings extended in the night sky
OMG, this is so hilarious especially when I read the lyrics.
How often do we see them singing facing each other. (I noticed they sing closing their eyes but Koichi peeked a little bit towards the end of his paragraph.  )
It is just too plain cute. If they sing a sad song, it would meant each other, if it is a lovey dovey love song, a comical effect as such results.
haha...
Then Tsuyoshi repeated the line with his hand on Koichi's forehand and bangs.... :love2: :love2: :love2:
Kimi ni aitai Ima aitai Donna kotoba yori mo
Soba ni oide Kimi ga iru nara Tada sore dake de
Want to see you See you now Even if separated for one second
My love is The white wings extended in the night sky
Great fan service here.
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 04:04 AM (GMT)
I just showed the above Harmony of December performance to my kids and they were laughing so hard. "They're really having fun," my son said.
That's exactly right.
I also want to add that the costume designer has made a very good outfit for Tsuyoshi. Whereas they have to divide Koichi into segments to make him look less skinny compared to Tsuyoshi, they gave Tsuyoshi a compact diagonal design. what I love most was the slight hint of pink on the side and the pink lining. So beautiful, like a girl's piece.
7. [DISC1] the EDGE of the WORD
Good performance
8. [DISC1] 停電の夜には -On the night of a blackout-
I love this song so much and it's so good to see them perform this song this time. Now that I have finished translating it today at the G album, I like it even more. Even my daughter wanted to know what they were singing about and when she finished reading the translation, she was like, wow! So romantic.

A review!
I don't know if I should wait until you finish posting your review to comment but ah well.
I don't have an official review or one as detailed but I do agree with you on a few things.
I actually didn't enjoy watching this DVD compared to other KinKi (not solo) but KinKi DVD's I have.
I didn't like the sound quality at all. IMO it was way too live. I've read comments from others and they liked it, but I didn't. Tsuyoshi was way too loud and Koichi was way too quiet. :( I could barely hear him because he has such a softer voice to begin with, I'm disappointed that was overlooked. A better editing job could have been done with that but it wasn't.
The costumes I thought were alright. I don't pay too much attention to them or over react if they're different.
I did like that they sang "on the night of a blackout". Koichi was :love4: because his softer voice was perfect for that performance.
And his solo too! I liked that a lot except for the dancers and the lack of really good close ups.
And yeah, I'd love to smack the cameraman or men. Every time there was a close-up of Koichi, I was lucky if I got to see him for longer than a second at the most before they panned out to focus on the stage and back dancers. But this is what really frustrates me about their concerts now, both solo with Koichi and with KinKi as well. I HATE THE BACK DANCERS!!!!! All of them. I don't want them there. They don't belong there. If they need to be included for Koichi's solo song, fine but get them off the stage after that.
Part of the reason why I bother to buy these DVDs in the first place is because I can't be there to SEE Koichi. I want to SEE HIM. I don't want a bunch of pointless dancers getting in the way every time they show a fairly decent close-up of him. And it's not only for songs of Koichi's, it was for the whole concert in general. It's frustrating to me when I see pointless dance choreography to ballad songs.
So what was my point again? Well, not enough close-ups of Koichi at all. Like you said Sandra, if they showed him for a full 1-2 seconds I was lucky.
I would have liked to see G concert released over this one though. :(
I was already disappointed before I watched the DVD because of a certain MC bonus. I was NOT against the DVD release but I was against having that certain scene included. IMO it wasn't necessary since it WAS on every WS morning show in Japan the following morning. But that's all I'm saying on the subject.
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 05:04 AM (GMT)
10. [DISC1] Lose Control
Koichi fans in general must have very high expectations for this song but I think it fell a bit flat in the dance department. More disappointing is the editing. I'm not sure if Koichi actually directed the editing of this particular song but there are a lot of out of focus zoom ins that I have not seen before in Koichi concerts. They kept choosing the wide angle and the up till the part where they did a far shot of an entire group of male dancing along with Koichi, all that front part was very fragmented. The incredibly seductive girl underneath move could have been even more effective if it was cropped a tiny bit tighter. Yo, I don't need to see other guys having a girl beneath. I want to see Koichi the star, good grief.
In short, they focused on the dancers and the big picture and took Koichi totally out of the limelight. Even if Koichi had great dance moves,it's all at a wrong angle. I'm a bit disappointed in this portion. I think I remember slightly seeing the fan cam on this portion and it was a much prettier piece.
11. [DISC1] since 1997
12. [DISC1] 風の色
I remember these two songs are the particular ones that I did not like at all from the Phi album and although Koichi looks marvellous in his red jacket and finally looking more neat and tidy like himself unlike the previous pin striped costume where he had to put a scarf to bulk himself up, and although Tsuyoshi looked totally charming with his hairstyle and suddenly reminded me that he finally looks like an idol after all in this look, the songs suck big time still.

This is how bad it is. I have ample opportunity to screencap closeups of Tsuyoshi but none of Koichi's come out no matter how many times I tried. Not enough time....or blame it on he dances too much? :faint:
The first song is still neither here nor there jazz and Carribean or percussion mesh and the second song stinks big time with brass overcoming even Tsuyoshi's voice and Koichi looked like mouthing without a voice. Even Tsuyoshi has to sing with his mic full force towards his mouth. They should have not used such full blown instrumentation.
13. [DISC1] 全部だきしめて
Thank goodness they give us a good old Kinki song with acoustic guitar and decent singing by the two.
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 05:21 AM (GMT)
Ah yes, duotiger, it's okay to comment while I'm watching. I don't know if I could finish watching in one sitting.
I don't mind the much talked about MC part. It serves its purpose.
But it's not only me who is feeling this way. I showed it to all my three kids and they all said that Koichi didn't get a fair amount of steady time in the first few songs we watched. It was like the cameraman is a fan of Tsuyoshi.
I'm not against Tsuyoshi. I'm against poor Koichi not having the same amount of time and for poor Koichi fans like us, who might not get a solo every year like Tsuyoshi does, ah...we poor souls longed for a longer glimpse of Koichi.
I think I have to dig up all the fancams and satisfy myself that way but most of the fan cams, because of the seating, was also Koichi - challenged videos ....hahahahaha....or Koichi-disabled....ROFL....
Don't worry, KK fans or Tsuyoshi fans. I'm not against KK or Tsuyoshi, just the editing really irks me this time.
And I totally agree. I don't want to see the background dancers every single beep song in front, by the side, at the back, and in every way block the moves of our stars. I rewatched the Lose Control a few times and I want to kick the TV and kick off every single one of them off stage. Beep...

Tsuyoshi's Kindaichi theme song. Very cute song. Watch his live when he was young here

15. [DISC1] 僕は思う
Koichi's first self composed song. I like his 2004 performance on this one because it looks more innocent.
16. [DISC1] ノー・チューンドunchanged.
Okay song. At this point, my eye is examining how much make up Koichi has and wonder if Tsuyoshi has less make up. Exciting song ne?
But here's the reward! I adjusted the lighting on this. Koichi definitely has more eyeshadow on. So pretty!!!

And Tsuyoshi's Unchanged got to be the best so far up to track 16 in editing. Perfect filming and centering of his dance. Not only that, Tsuyoshi gave a good refreshing performance on this song.

kristy_KxK - July 15, 2008 02:03 PM (GMT)
Oh!! PHI concert review !! Its the new released one right? I'm still waiting for my Taiwan edition copy because I need the subs. hahaha~
Anyway, regarding the more Tsuyoshi screencaps, I thought that this DVD is filmed with 3 cameras, which means, you can choose whether you just wanna watch Tsuyoshi for throughout the whole concert, or only Koichi or both KinKi Kids.
If you understand what I meant. LOL.
Because previously, when I bought my KAT-TUN REAL FACE DVD box-set. My DVD of the PV did come with that angles thingy, which means I could watch the normal PV (with all 6 of them), or individuals (which is when the camera focus on 1 individual member even when its not his part of the verse).
Maybe you could try that to see more Koichi's angles. LOL!
I'm saying this in case no one knows. haha~ Sorry if everyone already knows about it. :ph43r:
I can't wait for my copy !! But it hasn't released in Taiwan yet! the Taiwan edition. :crying3:
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 04:52 PM (GMT)
Kristy, when you get your Taiwan edition, pls let us know if it has angles selection for Koichi. I haven't got mine yet because I need subs too.
duotiger51 - July 15, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
I did notice the angle warning picture thing (????) pop up in the corner of my screen, but I think it was only for the last four songs, or so, if I'm remembering correctly. But the angle option was not for the songs I wanted to see.
I didn't bother with it though. I don't know if there were better and closer angles for Koichi that way. If I feel up to it maybe I'll watch my DVD again sometime and check. Maybe.
Does the Taiwan version you mention have only Chinese subtitles or English as well?
koboshi - July 15, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 07:37 PM (GMT)
Oh, good, koboshi, you got your DVD too. thanks for the caps. Yeah, I saw that part too. I was worried when Tsuyoshi fell on Koichi. I thought, shoot, what if Tsuyoshi crushed him...haha...
But that moment of Tsuyoshi on top of Koichi looking at Koichi and the close up of Koichi looking away was...hahaha....very suggestive...
I'm glad I and duotiger are not the only one complaining. Right description: Koichi downgrade  There were quite a few songs where Koichi's moves could have been brilliant in close ups but they filmed his beep back and side with dancers in front. I was like....Beep, beep, beep.
Perhaps the stage was too far from the camera. There were a lot less frontal filming this time.
We should seriously petition that the KK cameraman's head be examined or complain to Koichi that he, as a producer, though I'm not sure if he's editor too, had sacrificed himself too much this time. :ph43r:
So it appears that the special angles are as follows:
Live DVD release from KinKi Kids includes footage of their January 1, 2008 performance. DVD also features multi-angle footage of the songs "Giniro Ango," "Ai Sareru Yori Ai Shitai," and "Glass no Shonen" recorded in group shot, Koichi shot, and Tsuyoshi Shot. Limited edition includes deluxe three-sided digpak + three-fold case and 24-page booklet.
3 songs only and Lose Control is not included, sigh. And if anything, they should have multi angled Bonnie Butterfly because we didn't see enough of Koichi in that one and Tsuyoshi's multi angle could put all the Tsuyoshi fans in hospital.
Taiwan copy is just that - for Chinese readers and only has Chinese subs. Perhaps one of the sub group might sub the MC parts since I see V6's Voyager concert all got subbed. Perhaps the KK groups would too.
koboshi - July 15, 2008 08:25 PM (GMT)
I had no idea about different angles option here, thanks kimurafan to let me know, another opportunity to watch more Koichi's back  (sometimes I have a feeling he really turns back on purpose, too many coincidences  )
I don't think the angles are that bad, but they are changing too fast, like you start watching one point of the screen, a second after you have to jump into left lower corner, then upper right, and so on. I could be an advantage, done with feeling and expression but instead it's just confusing, especially because most of the shots are in groups and following one person is tiring.
I've been wondering about that filming field limitation so I re-watched this year's Johnny's CDL which was on the same stage and no matter who where or how, all the shots were always perfect to me.
It also struck me that the second dvd is almost empty, just three songs and MCs, they could add some behind the screen scenes, or more angles. Other funny thing, the booklet has sponge photos from the 31st Decenber concert
duotiger51 - July 15, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
 Not much to comment on from me with the sponge pool.
 Really? Is that really all the angle options show? No really good, really clear close ups of Koichi? At all?
I was wondering about that myself. I noticed it too.
When the cameraman did manage to finally zoom in on Koichi, he would look or turn away. I know he's shy and everything but I agree, it was too much of a coincidence because he knew when to look away.
kimurafan - July 15, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
Oh gosh, just as I have feared. I downloaded 2 of the Koichi angles one just now and it's those stand on a platform and be wheeled around type of angles. Nothing of dancing type.
Not sure about the third one. I'm not too optimistic.
I was wondering if this is Koichi's punishment to the Koichi only fans for stirring up that petition earlier about not wanting to include the MC kiss portion or whatever that heated subject was. And to soothe Tsuyoshi fans, it became a more Tsuyoshi focused concert.
Look at the number of UNCHANGED by Tsuyoshi. They filmed it perfectly in frontal view and well edited. It is something like Koichi's own solo type of editing.
So the possibilities are that :
1. The position that Koichi stands most of the time on the right does not have the right camera setup or has severe camera malfunction...:ph43r:
2. Koichi is punishing Koichi fans and making it up to Tsyuoshi fans. (Lesson to learn is don't bother to petition....ROFL)
3. Tsuyoshi edited Koichi's solo and Koichi edited Tsuyoshi's solo....ROFL...
4. Cameraman has a secret love for Tsuyoshi. :laughing1:
5. Koichi loves his partner too much to steal the limelight and instructed everyone to showcase Tsuyoshi.
Alright, enough said. I'm not going to start a war on this. I'll wait patiently for Koichi's next solo and continue to watch on later on and continue to comment till the end. In any case, apart from the lack of Koichi in closeups, the songs are really well performed and Kinki Kids really give me the feel of Kinki Kids in sync with each other. You could tell how comfortable and relaxed they are with each other and I appreciate that.
kristy_KxK - July 16, 2008 09:11 AM (GMT)
I totally love the last screencap of Koichi lying among the sponges with Tsuyoshi on top. (sounds so weird) :P Thank you for the screen caps.
EH!? the Koichi angles were only for a few songs?! And whats about not including the MC kissing part !? Koichi should understand how much we LOVE that scene !!
But..I really hope its not that bad. After all, this is my first time buying their concert DVD (and I bought 4 of their concert VCDs at one go this time!!) And I really hope it doesn't disappoint me.
It seems to me that JE concert DVDs seldom includes backstage scenes, OMAKE scenes and rehersal scenes like the ones we had with w-inds. concert DVDs. Don't they know that we fans LOVE that part more than anything else? hahahaha! :panic2:
koboshi - July 16, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
There is the MC with kissing and two others (with guitars), they're on DVD2 ;)
fluffy - July 16, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
Wahh I haven't been here for ages :squint:
I believe both KinKi edited this DVD together, or so I heard from a reliable source ;)
LOL Sandra, punishment, I think you're thinking too much on this. I've watched this DVD 3273237203927 times and I think Koichi has more or less the same airtime as Tsuyo. It's just that Tsuyo was in such a good mood so that he couldn't stand still and was always caught doing something when he was shot. And this phenomenon does not happen very often in every concert tour :squint: Whereas, as compared to Tsuyo, Koichi was mostly standing, walking around, and waving to the fans while singing. That's what I notice from this concert. Just compare the 3 multi-angle performances and you'll see what I mean :D Also, the more you want to see Koichi's shot, the more Tsuyoshi's shots feel longer  Anyway, that's why they are KinKi Kids, one makes up for the lack of hyper-ness of the other :P
As pointed out by duotiger, this DVD sounds very live. I think it's brilliant. Tsuyo's voice is always much better live than the CD. And Koichi's vocal really shocked me, it's improved A LOT from the last Font de DVD, in terms of strength, technique, and stability; it reminds me of Tsuyo's vocal in KinKi's early days. In Font de DVD, I feel really sorry for Koichi since throughout the concert, it sounded like Tsuyoshi's solo all the way LOL  However, in this phi DVD, their voices actually blended and created a beautiful harmony, now that's what a duo should sound like :D
Kristy_KxK, Johnny's DVD releases for Limited edition usually come with 3 or 4 DVDs full of backstage and lots of other goodies. That was why we were all shocked when we found out that it was just a normal DVD with not much extras (well, I'm satisfied with the hidden MCs :love4: ). Even their solo DVDs had 3 DVDs for the Limited edition with lots of stuff in each of them. Nevertheless, this can be perceived as a sign that KinKi is going more towards musician image that sells their music much more than their glittery idol image. Maybe that's why they put the kissing MCs on hidden tracks LOL

ah..you can just call me by Kristy.
Oh...so its this way? I don't know, because according to the person whom I'm buying my KinKi Kids concert VCDs from, she said that Taiwan releases only VCD versions of it. Only Koichi's MIRROR con is in DVD. I'm not so sure of it yet, coz i just bought it recently, waiting for it to arrive. As for PHI con DVD, I'm still waiting for the release of it in Taiwan so that my friend could get it for me. As I do need the chinese subs there. My Japanese aren't that good.
Hmm, but I bought KAT-TUN's concert DVD, they comes in 2 DVDs, but non of backstage clips, more like more encore related or different avenue solo performances. (The KAT-TUN ones are mostly the one in Tokyo Dome, so, they'll put in the solos or encore they sang at another location in Disc 2)
However, for w-inds. DVD, we'll always expect 1 disc containing the concert performance, and the 2nd disc are the makings, rehersals, OMAKE and their backstage moments. Those were really nice to watch.
Anyway, thank you for telling me. I can't wait to get my hands on my DVDs and VCDs!! :love7:

It's a taiwanese website books.com.tw the shipping is considered half of those in CDjapan.. =P I got my copy at around 42 SGD which is around 35USD???
haven't gotten down to watch it though.. =D

Welcome back, fluffy.
Thanks for your input. So both boys edited this DVD.
I actually agree with you. While Tsuyoshi's voice stands out as usual, for once, I too feel that Koichi did a very good job this year. I could actually hear him sing in many songs even when Tsuyoshi's voice is strong and ethereal. And I could actually hear the higher pitch harmony that Koichi put in even though poor guy, he really had to strain and exert himself still. Nevertheless, that's something I don't hear in previous concerts and of course, back then, I kept writing, "Tsuyoshi's voice is overpowering, why can't he put his mic further away and spare his poor partner..." and etc. Singing wise, I think this concert was very good.

EH!? Really ? But my friend in Taiwan says it hasn't been released yet. OMG! I really hopes she could get the Limited Edition one for me.. :touched:
The Taiwan edition CDs are normally cheaper than the Japan editions one. LOL!
do the site allow you to like buy from overseas? Coz besides YesAsia, I couldn't find any place that ships CDs internationally. And buying on YesAsia is kinna troublesome as it needs to be paid in USD.

BRILLANT DVD, even my BF loved it HAHAHA ^^
Well, I didn't notice the screen time for each person but given that I am a HUGE tsuyoshi fan, I don't mind :P
I love how they had fun when singing and nearer to the end, if felt like they didn't wanna leave the stage ^^ so cute

hmm.. there's actually a lot of online shops, but usually the japan ones their shipping are expensive, play-asia.com has free shipping like yesasia too and their price are actually cheaper than yesasia and ships faster.. so you can try out there too.. I got the phi taiwan press at books.com.tw but you have to pay shipping, a good thing is that the shipping is not as expensive as like cdjapan, amazon or hmv. my phi dvd shipping cost ard 13 dollars..
kirbycorps, haha glad that even a guy can appreciate their concert!! =DD
