Title: John calling it quits?
BiggerThanMyBody - July 5, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
This is funny I'm posting this seeing how I've stayed away from rumors, I've stayed away from anything un-muiscial with this man, but this irk my attention a bit.
I'm not posting this because I believe it but I'm actually not discrediting it either which is scary. I just find it interesting and if its true, that would contradict everything John has said in the past 8 years about him not doing anything else but music. There are *cough* rumors and though I feel John's words might have been taken out of context, but that after this tour he maybe taking a bit of a looonnnnggg break or even worst permanent break from recording. But I wouldn't freak out, again I feel his words can be taken out of the true meaning behind them.

Theories as to why I don't think its true:
1. He has been recording a new album(though we don't know how much of, or how its going), be kinda stupid to throw whatever he's done out the window, however it has been done before by many artist.
2. He's 30 years old, your telling me after 8 years and just 3-4 albums he's calling it quits. That's barely a career right there if you really think about it.
3. He's been quoted so many times over the years saying that playing music is his life and he has nothing else he can do. WTF is he going to do, unless he wants to just cash in now and live it up with his girlfriends I don't see it happening.
Reasons why I actually think it could be true:
1. Sadly, John might have hit his mark and doesn't have anything else songwriting wise left in him. He might feel like he has done it all in a short career and what else is there to do and that he really has done his best material.
2. Burnt out plain and simple. I've said it all these years and I'll keep saying it, that man has not stopped since day one. You can only go for so long before you say, "I have to stop I can't do this anymore right now". You can love what your doing but there comes a time when you need to stop.
I think he does need a break, I hope not a done deal break, but I think John needs a little John time. He's been going none stop for 8 years and now he's got this media shit(in which I think its a 50/50 his fault and the fault of the media for being dicks) and judging how things are getting out of hand with him and the media before he really fucks himself up, he might need a break. But a "retirement" as people are calling it when he hasn't really begun to have a career, is stupid. I would hate to think I've seen the start of his career and the end of it within a short time.
For the obvious reasons I hope John is just talking out of his ass again, but what frustrates me the most is, he'd done his whole talking out of his ass thing for so long, I don't know how read him anymore like I use. I can't trust so many things he says now or believe him, and that's just frustrating as a fan. I'm not seeing him this year, so he better not pull any 1.2.3 I'm out the door see ya later crap without giving fans a heads up. I actually wouldn't be shocked if he did decide to stop for awhile after this tour, and despite the fact that its been 2 years since Continuum, he can stop. There have been albums released 5-6 years apart from each other even longer and anything he has been working on the studio is not a done deal, he can throw whatever he's done out the window or put it aside.
I dunno thought I would put it out there and see what ya'll think, if there wasn't a quote by John I wouldn't have started this thread but seeing as its a quote it got my attention.

Hmm...well...how should I say this...I'm thinking maybe he just doesn't feel too inspired at the moment...or something. You know he's not going to release another album till he thinks it's just right...who knows how long that will take...and I gotta say, yes, he does need some time off. He's worked his ass off all these years...he's one of those very few musical artists who I've managed to stick with for so long(six years and counting!), his music truly speaks to me, more than any other artist to ever exist! I think what he said was just blown out of proportion, I mean come on, he didn't just flat out say he was going to quit, he said he was just unsure of when he'll release his next album...he doesn't seem like the type of guy who would just quit all of a sudden...I think he truly loves what he does, plus you know he loves to interact with his fans...
Well, there's my two cents...sorry that was so long. I have a tendency to ramble at times.

i agree with both of you, it may be truth, it may be hear-say. but john has been one of those artist who pumps it out year after year and hasnt really stepped back and went on a break, whether it be 6 months to a couple years...
i mean, every other band/artist i love has bowed out from the lime-light for a while, where you dont hear about him or them or anything theyre up to because theyre taking a break from the music industry.
if it's true. then yes it will be sad. but im sure we will get along okay. i mean. we've all survived the simpson fiasco and we're all here to witness the aniston train wreck that is i'm sure soon to come.
but hopefully the past will help us in a mini-hiatus. i'd actually rather hear nothing at all about him than to see him on the cover of the latest trashy magazine cover.

his latest blog says this
"As a 30-year old with an eight-year mainstream professional music career, I couldn't be happier (and more thankful) to still have a gig. All I can think about when I'm on stage these days is how terrible it would feel to have learned how to make the most out of each and every show after the gig was up"
and i don't think that sounds like something he would say if he was planning to quit...that sort of sentiment sounds like he is thankful he is still able to KEEP GOING, and for quite a long time i hope!
and this "And as a musician, I'm finally learning to distinguish the notes that matter from the ones that don't" sounds like he thinks he still has a lot to learn, rather than nothing more to do!
that's what i think, anyway :)

Last night he mentioned that he would be writing, I believe he said "another kick ass album" - I'm pretty sure he said after the tour...
But he's no quiter.

That's a good sign right there. ;)

Well that's what I think, I don't see John giving up any time soon. Just it kinda sends mix messages when you say, "I've done it all with these tools" sometimes when you say that it means you've done everything you can. It can send off not so good signs. But judging by his blogs and stuff I know he loves what he does and doesn't plan on throwing it in any time soon.
This is why I don't always take what he says seriously, damn guy still confuses me lol
