As the Internet is known to do, a video clip gets circulated around like a virus and people talk about it. The up-and-coming one of this trend is close to home for me because I work for the guy who made it.

http://cynicalsmirk.com/blogpost.php?entry_id=549

The video is of an interview being done of Bryant Varney, a Northern Michigan University employee who builds huge Jenga projects in his spare time. His previous works include Rockefeller Center and a scale-model of the Sears Tower. The video is of his Leaning Tower of Pisa attempt while he's being interviewed by the local TV station.

The Truth:
-The "reporter" is actually head of finance for NMU.
-The event was staged. No reporter would ever carry a live phone onto a live interview. Despite putting his pieces in public places, Bryant has yet to have a project collapse without his involvement. Rockefeller was taken apart by students, and the Robotics Department did the demolition of the Sears Tower with Lego robots. (It was actually rather funny, since three of the four robots were destroyed before the tower came down.)

Same.

Though I've heard of those before.

edit: That looks like obvious green screening to me. The guy on the table vs the background, anyway. Though as I keep watching it's not. Still, everything about it looks fake.

I find it hard to believe that the shakey camera could be local news anyway.

Um, it actually IS the local news station. And that's not a green-screen; that's the library I work at. laugh.gif

...I know it's not. I said that, if you notice. It just looks it.

And holy cow that news station sucks. I know like ten different people who would do better with a camera that has never used one before.

Agreed. They wouldn't have it on the tripod, then take it off- it'd be off the tripod by the time they went on the air, or on some sort of steadicam contraption.

Not to mention they would use a wireless microphone; there's absolutely no place for them to plug in that thing in the lobby. wink.gif
